Bio
Alexander Breus is a contemporary Georgian/Russian artist who paints totemic compositions and monumental characters. Alexander finds inspiration in the phenomena surrounding him. Many of his paintings depict dramatic scenes isolated from their specific personal context resulting in a more universal communication tool. Much of his works, whether sculptural or painterly, are blatantly sculptural in their form and graphically vibrant in colour. There is a dramatic quality to Alexanders work that suggests a theatrical recreation of life.
Growing up in Russia Alexander was Influenced by much of Russian postmodernist and non-conformist art which lead him to the expiration of conceptual art and totemic figures. Simultaneously his Georgian roots fuelled his curiosity in Ornamental, christian and folk art. Enrolling into SAIC in 2022 helped him expand his thematic and conceptual ideas onto the American political and cultural landscape. Founding “Tossarose” collective with fellow artists later that same year helped him curate and display his works in group and solo exhibitions, most recently “Tossarose third petal: The day after” in April 2025.
